The Gallery is setting up a show in April with  a group of artists from  The Padstow Studio so whilst in Cornwall  I took the opportunity to call in and see Sarah Adams who, besides being a full time painter, miraculously manages to run the gallery  located below her studio.

We then drove over to St Issey and on to Bodmin to visit  Chris Thomas and Rachel Budd whose work will be included in the show. New territory for me and I am very much looking forward to working with these highly accomplished artists.

If you would like to learn more about Chris Thomas and Rachel Budd visit Padstow Studio website.  Sarah Adams  has regular one man shows with Rupert Maas  gallery (of Antique Roadshow fame)

January in St Ives

There is no better time than January to come to  St Ives, it feels a complete priveledge to be here without the seasonal crowds.  I have   my apartment here in Downalong which I come down to as often as I can.

Visits to Tate St Ives for art and cream teas , walks on the cliffs, fish and chips, books…  I shall of course leave time to visit artists studios, catch up on their lives and plan new future shows.

Perfect!

Ideal Home photoshoot

A photographer and stylist from Ideal Home visited the gallery last week and spent the day taking photos of the house for a feature which will be out in the magazine next year. Here are a few snaps from behind the scenes. I’ll let you know as soon as the magazine comes out next year.

Laurence Edwards and I have worked together for 14 years and I  always look forward to visiting his studio  and get a glimpse of the fascinating process of bronze casting and on this occasion I went to preview an outdoor piece I commisioned earlier in the year.

Gatherer, bronze, edition /9, 103 x 24 x 40.5cm.

Here he is, as yet no title, a powerful piece  that will inspire comment!

Have you found Nord in Bridge Street, Cambridge yet?  It opened a month ago and is bursting with  Danish design homeware and fantastic Marimekko  fabrics and bags.

I  have ordered a set of white lacquer step ladders and I didn’t even know I needed any. Cafe in the back room, perfect antidote to Christmas  shopping.

I met Rick Kirby for the first time last week when he delivered two fantastic new pieces for the Christmas Show.

Witness, 102cm,  stainless steel coins

Kirby uses industrial methods of welding steel to produce these beautiful female forms. If it looks familiar you might have seen his work dotted about the country as Rick is best known for his large scale public commissions some of which are several metres wide such as his ‘Cross the Divide’ sculpture which can be seen outside St Thomas’ Hospital in London.

The Call, 192cm, mild steel plates

This sculpture looks fantastic in the gallery, it’s sensuous and elegant which contrasts with the industrial materials used to create it and it’s also really striking at 192cm tall.

Both sculptures are on display now, the gallery is open Thurs, Fri, Sat 10am – 5pm or by appointment
